"In what ways were you inspired during the last presidential campaign? Do you recall any specific moments where you felt a shift in your attitude towards politics, life, the world? How did those feelings translate into actions? Or, did you find the whole campaign season so overwhelming that you just tuned out? If so, what do you think could be changed to improve the election process?"
Here is my response -
I felt inspired because so many people involved themselves in the campaign. I tend to hear things like, "meh, why vote? my vote doesn't matter!" So when people, specifically young people, were out there trying to get others to vote, my heart burst a little. Of course, the novelty of the campaigns, with Obama and Clinton runnign, was exciting to see. I felt like I was actively a part of this history in a way I've never felt before. Even with 9/11, I didn't really feel connected, although I know that is a very big part of our history. But with the election, I felt ....like a participant in the history.
I voted, but I voted from the moment I turned 18. My action came in the form of discussion. Normally, I don't engage in much political discussion with my friends and family - it seems like a bad idea. But I did this time around. Not to persuade them all to vote for my chosen candidate - I didn't want to push my politics on them. But, I wanted to know how they felt about the whole thing. I wanted to know what they thought, who they cared about, what they cared about, etc. And this particular election seemed to stir opinions up in almost everybody, even those who didn't care about politics beforehand.
THIS PROMPT IS ONLY FOR SECTION 44, WHICH MEETS FROM 9:10-10:25
